01Getting started

In plain English

You set up the account, not your child. Add the athlete, record a session, invite your coach when you're ready.

  1. Create your account. SkillNest accounts are for parents and guardians. Children don't sign in — they watch alongside you on your device.
  2. Add your athlete. A first name or nickname, their sport, and their age group. That's all we need to organise the library.
  3. Record or import your first session. Film in the app, or bring across footage already sitting in your camera roll.
  4. Invite your coach. One tap sends them an invitation. You choose what they see, and you can change your mind later.

What you'll need

RequirementDetail
iPhoneiOS 16 or later
AndroidAndroid 10 or later
ConnectionWi-Fi recommended for uploading. Recording works offline; uploads resume when you reconnect.
PermissionsCamera and microphone to record. Photo library access only if you import existing footage.

02Recording and uploading

My upload is stuck or failed

Uploads pause automatically when you lose signal and resume when you're back on Wi-Fi — a stalled upload is usually waiting, not broken. If it hasn't moved after reconnecting:

  1. Open Film Room and pull down to refresh.
  2. Check your device has enough free space to finish processing the file.
  3. Force-quit SkillNest and reopen it. Uploads pick up where they stopped.

Still stuck after that, email us with the date of the session and roughly how long the clip is.

Can I upload videos already on my phone?

Yes. Import from your camera roll and SkillNest will file the clip by its original recording date, so old footage lands in the right place on the timeline rather than at today's date.

How long can a single clip be?

Individual clips can run up to as much as your allotted storage allows. For a full session, shorter clips of specific drills are easier for a coach to review and easier for you to find again.

Does recording in the app use my phone's storage?

Only briefly. The clip is held on your device until it finishes uploading, then removed from SkillNest's local cache. Footage you imported from your camera roll stays in your camera roll — deleting it there is up to you.

03Storage and video quality

In plain English

We measure storage in gigabytes. Free accounts get 1GB of storage. Paid accounts keep your original quality.

How much can I store?

Free accounts include 1GB of storage at standard quality, and you can earn up to additional storage. Paid plans include allowance. Your remaining storage is shown at the top of Film Room.

We count storage in gigabytes so you know exactly how much space you have before you film.

What's the difference between standard and original quality?

Every video is kept in a standard-quality version that streams quickly on any connection. Paid plans also preserve the original file at full resolution — worth having when a coach is looking closely at technique, or when you want the footage years from now.

Quality follows the video, not the viewer. If you're on a paid plan, your coach watches your footage at original quality too, on their own account, at no cost to them.

What happens to my videos if I downgrade or cancel?

You don't lose your library. Standard-quality versions of your videos remain accessible. Your original-quality files move to archive storage and are kept for 1 month, so there's time to change your mind or download what matters.

We email you before anything is deleted. Nothing disappears without warning.

I'm running out of minutes

Three options: delete clips you no longer need, earn additional minutes through the in-app options, or upgrade. Deleting a clip frees its minutes immediately.

04Working with your coach

In plain English

Nothing is shared until you share it. Coaches see only the clips you send, and you can cut off access whenever you like.

How do I invite my coach?

Send an invitation from the app using their email or phone number. They create a free coach account, and from then on they can see the clips you share and leave callouts on them.

SkillNest works with the coach your child already has. We're not matching you with someone new.

What can my coach actually see?

Only what you share. Your coach cannot browse your library, cannot see clips of other athletes, and cannot download or forward your footage through SkillNest.

We can't stop someone screen-recording a video on their own device, so share with coaches you know and trust — the same judgement you'd apply to sending a video over WhatsApp.

How do I remove a coach's access?

Open the coach's profile in the app and remove them. Access ends immediately and they can no longer open any clip you previously shared. Callouts they already left stay in your library — they're yours.

What is a callout?

A note pinned to a specific moment in a video — "elbow drops here," "good rotation." Your child sees the correction at the exact frame it applies to, instead of trying to match a general comment to a memory of the session.

Does my coach pay?

No. Coach accounts are free. The parent's subscription covers the storage.

05Subscription and billing

How do I cancel?

Subscriptions are billed through the app store you signed up with, so cancellation happens there rather than inside SkillNest:

  • iPhone or iPad — Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then SkillNest, then Cancel Subscription.
  • Android — Google Play, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, then SkillNest, then Cancel.

You keep full access until the end of the period you've paid for. After that, section 3 explains what happens to your footage.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are considered on a case to case basis. You can write to us at support@getskillnest.com.

I was charged but my plan didn't change

Open Settings in SkillNest and tap Restore Purchases. That usually resolves it within a few seconds. If not, email us with the date of the charge and the store you bought through.

Can I change plans?

Yes, at any time, through the same app store subscription settings. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades at the end of your current billing period.

06Your account and your data

In plain English

You can download your footage or delete the account entirely, from inside the app. No phone call, no retention offer.

Deleting your account

You can delete your SkillNest account and everything in it directly in the app:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Account.
  3. Tap Delete account.
  4. Confirm. We'll ask you to type your email address, because this can't be undone.

Prefer not to do it in the app? Email support@getskillnest.com from your account address and we'll process it for you.

Download anything you want to keep first. Once deletion completes, your videos are gone — including original-quality files still in archive storage.

Your account closes immediately. Your content is removed from our systems within 30 days, and cleared from backups within 35 days. Billing records are kept where tax law requires it. Cancelling your subscription is a separate step — see section 5.

Downloading your footage

Export individual clips from the video menu, or request your full library from support@getskillnest.com. We'll send a download link within 7 days.

Privacy requests

To see what we hold, correct something, or object to how we use it, email support@getskillnest.com. We respond within one month, free of charge. As a parent you make these requests on your child's behalf. Full detail is in our privacy policy.

07Safety and concerns

In plain English

If something about a coach, a clip, or footage of your child worries you, tell us. We take it seriously and we act quickly.

Write to support@getskillnest.com if:

  • A coach behaves inappropriately with you or your child.
  • Footage of your child appears somewhere you didn't put it.
  • You appear in someone else's footage and want it addressed.
  • You believe an account has been created by a child.

We aim to acknowledge safety reports within 24 hours and can suspend an account while we look into it.

If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. We are not an emergency service and cannot respond at that speed.

08Still stuck?

Email support@getskillnest.com. To get to an answer faster, include:

  • The email address on your account.
  • Your device and OS version — iPhone 14, iOS 18.2, for instance.
  • The SkillNest version number from Settings, at the bottom.
  • What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.
  • A screenshot or screen recording, if you can.

We're a small team of parents building this alongside our own kids' training. We read everything, and the awkward questions are usually the useful ones.
